12/7/06 Live the Moment

Yesterday we had winter storm that dumped more than 20″ of snow, wind and the “winter blast” gave us a daylong white out. (We live in the snowbelt of West Michigan) Shovel, shovel shovel… I can’t even get to the studio to work! My challenge this week is to accept what is.

“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is awaiting us…. The old skin has to be shed before the new one is to come.”
~Joseph Campbell

Today’s Affirmation
I am free to be, free to move forward, free to change my life.

12/6/06 Home-work v.s Studio-work

It seems as if the Universe is conspiring to keep me out of the studio this month. This is an on-going frustration for me that I have been unsuccessful in resolving.

  • Broken hot water boiler (dealing with 2 servicemen calls and apt’s)
  • Artists picking up consigment artwork (this took three weeks)
  • Snowstorms requiring 3-5 hours of snow shoveling (per day)
  • Computer running insanely slow (takng 30 to 35 minutes to boot up)
  • E-mail that takes me all day to complete
  • Christmas letters that need writing, address printing and stamping
  • Holiday meal planning, cooking and food buying
  • Christmas parties that require gifts, appetisers and coordination
  • Neighbors who call with “emergencies” needing my help
  • Cleaning for Chrismas guests

I try not to be resentful about being the “person who works at home” but as a result of my physical proximity I do find myself doing more than my share of “home-based-work.” I would love to know how other couples manage this issue?

I have to keep reminding myself that writer Ann Wilson Schaef says that

“Life is a process.
We are a process.
The Universe is a process.”
